Customize your toilet by painting artwork straight on its walls, or even paint your thoughts on paper or canvas for short term displays you can swap out any time you prefer. Tailor your artwork to pair with an existing bathroom theme or colour scheme for a cohesive look, or create a bold statement with a large art piece that transforms the whole feel of this space.
Mural Matters
A mural takes the area of a wall covering that may otherwise embellish the wall. Paint a series of fish, mermaids and seahorses for an ocean-inspired toilet, adding a translucent aqua color wash above the sea-life paintings — after they’ve dried — to create an underwater impact. Make the color wash by brushing the tinted glaze over the wall in bold sweeping strokes, and then rubbing the wet glaze with a soft cloth. A feathering brush gently wiped across the surface relaxes the appearance even more. Recreate a postcard or illustration in mural form by casting the image on the wall with an opaque projector, tracing the design from chalk on the wall, and then filling in the details with paints.
Faux Views
Make an outdoor view in paint for a toilet without a window, or even with no ah-worthy perspective of its own. Paint faux shutters on the wall at a desired window location, then create an outdoor scene via the painted fake window. The scene may be a view of a beach or ships sailing; a garden of lavender and remote rolling hills, or even a waterfall — whatever most inspires relaxation to you. Sketch your thoughts on the wall in pencil or rebound before painting to perfect the view’s perspective. If you’d rather not paint the faux perspective on the wall itself, paint it on a artwork canvas or hardboard rather. For a realistic impact, hang real shutters on the wall all around your fake window perspective instead of painting them. Utilize wall liners or fasten the shutters to studs to prevent wall damage.
Cottages and Castles
Turn your toilet walls to artificial cottage or castle walls to visually take the space to another era or a different nation. Paint a few faux bricks along the corners of walls and about the door and windows. Use painter’s tape to mask off the brick areas; the taped areas become the grout lines. Dip a sponge cut to the desired brick dimensions and shape to several comparable brick paint colors, such as tan or gray for a castle and tan or white for a cottage, blotting the walls with the faux brick design. Add shading with marginally darker colors along a designated edge of each brick to create a realistic effect.
Schemes and Topics
Re-purpose set of image frames of a variety of sizes and shapes to create a gallery grouping predicated on colour or theme. For example, paint a succession of mermaids on the front of the backing board or each image frame, each mermaid being different than the preceding, and then hang the grouping on one wall with the most significant art in the center. Paint all of the frames the exact same shade to tie the look together visually. For a grouping depending on color, select up on a shade found elsewhere in the restroom, like a cobalt blue accent tile. Sketch or paint a succession of images or words inside the frames, all of with cobalt blue paint; the images themselves don’t have to be associated with.
