I have gone through quite a few pints of sorbet over the previous couple of weeks, alternating strawberry and lemon. OK, I’m lying. They were not pints; they had been plastic baths, and if I saw both stacked one on top of the other it made me head directly over to to see if the yummy composition in my freezer could be turned into a room. Turns out it could, and each room I found was markedly different from the rest, not just in design but in the way the designers had made the color combination work. See if a sorbet-inspired color palette is for you.

Use the combo in a surprising space. It is not often you visit candy-colored furniture in an industrial area, making interior designer Tineke Triggs’ office all the more fun. She pulled off the furniture colours directly from the suzani pattern on the chairs.

Yank on your paint from art. It appears this designer has pulled a Bubbalicious-pink straight from the painting and applied it to the doorway.

Experiment with various colors. A profound and darker color of blossom is much more subdued yet still has ability.

Add neutrals to the mix. If high contrast isn’t for you, tone one of both colours and add more neutrals.Matched with a subtle, buttery yellow, raspberry is rich and elegant.

Go mad with color. Forget trends, overlook resale and proceed as mad with these colours as your heart desires. I imagine this homeowner whipping up lots of fun confections in this kitchen.
Kendall Wilkinson Design
Honor a historical style but go wild with color. This San Francisco living room is downright tasty; the designer has honored the art deco touches but updated the overall look with vivid color and fun prints, such as the ones on the Donut pillow fabric and the zebra rug.

Use plenty of white space. If you are using amped-up colors, a sure way to make them work is to be aware of the importance of white space. This joyous bedroom is about 75 percent white but leaves a very colorful impression.

Go all out. If you truly love a color blend, applying it liberally may be a fantastic victory or a dramatic tragedy.
To increase your odds of achieving a fantastic success, mix in a couple of neutrals with your favorite pair, as you see here with the tan floors, light wood table and natural rock wall. In addition, other bright pops of color, such as the ceramic tiles and vent hood, draw on the eye and maintain the fearless yellows and pinks from overpowering the room.
