Escape the throngs of holiday shoppers and combine a professional guide on a 90-minute journey through the historic Flatiron district. Attend a free lecture with Berkeley-based Peter Walker creator of PWP Landscape Architecture, along with co-designer of this National September 11 Memorial in New York. Walker’s career spans five decades, and he continues to have an global influence on the area of ecological design. Over the years, PWPLA has created numerous prize-winning and iconic designs, which range from small gardens to finish master plans. Walker served as co-designer with Michael Arad into the National September 11th Memorial, unveiled this past September.

Lace up your sneakers and join the Los Angeles Conservancy for a 21/2-hour walking tour through downtown LA.. Get an in-depth look in the background, materials, and design of Art Deco architecture in the 1920s-30s. Find out about the modern and angular style typified by vertical lines, geometric patterns and the way this architecture style is now a staple of downtown LA’s construction aesthetic. The roughly 11/2-mile walk will probably cease in the Eastern Columbia (featured above), Southern California Edison Company, William Fox, Oviatt, Garfield Buildings and much more.

There’s fun to be achieved at this creative display celebrating the life and artwork of Theodor Seuss Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. Known as the ingenious drive behind a bevy of fanciful people, things and creatures beloved by generations, his multi-faceted assortment of work, such as editorial cartoons, drawings, surrealist paintings and much more, will be on display. Interactive displays such as whimsical, hands-on activities concentrate on Dr. Seuss’ innovative thinking. You’ll have the opportunity to invent your own noise contraption, and write a novel with just 50 words as Dr. Seuss did with Green Eggs and Ham — and much more.
