Special events are being planned by Dickinson’s to celebrate the anniversary, in a daylong Celebration scheduled April 21, at Dickinson Garden Center on Franklin St. That event will not only include a gathering of garden enthusiasts, but a wonderful group of local horticulture and garden related professionals volunteering their time to answer questions and give advise. They will have plant sales, garden festive refreshments, door prizes, and a grand prize drawing. Some of the local lawn and garden specialist will be sharing their products such as Orchids from Hank’s Chapel Nursery, “I Must Garden” deer repellant, J&B Herbs, Japanese Maples from Willifords Nurseries, new products from Wyatt Quarles Seed Company, Permatill, and Mark Danieley from the Orange County Agricultural Extension Agency. All of our representatives will have their products on sale.
As we celebrate our 55th Anniversary, it’s important for us to reflect on the past. The roots go even deeper than 1952 – actually 1932. This was the year George Dickinson, Jr. came to Chapel Hill as a botany student. Dickinson Garden Center has announced its plans for celebrating its 55th anniversary. “We will be celebrating our 55th anniversary with considerable pride in our achievements,’ says Dickie Dickinson. ‘We look forward to the future with confidence and with the aim of building significantly on the very solid foundation our first five decades has provided.” The garden center has become an integral part of the Chapel Hill community.
